- Per IBC §105.2 (carried into KBC), storage racks over 5 ft 9 in (1,753 mm) high require a building permit; under that height are exempt. KBC carries IBC §105.2 verbatim — no KY amendment identified in the 4th Edition errata.

- Local building department in jurisdictions that have adopted the KBC and run their own enforcement (Louisville Metro, LFUCG/Lexington, etc.). In counties that have NOT adopted local enforcement, DHBC's Division of Building Code Enforcement serves as the AHJ. DHBC is also the AHJ for state-owned buildings.

- Louisville Metro publishes fees under LMCO Chapter 150.096 (valuation-based commercial schedule). Typical commercial alteration permits run a few hundred to low thousands USD on a sliding valuation scale. Lexington/LFUCG publishes a separate commercial fee schedule via Building Inspection.

- Neither Louisville Metro Construction Review nor LFUCG Building Inspection publishes a guaranteed turnaround for racking permits. Typical practice is 2–4 weeks for commercial rack work.

- Seismic Design Category
- B–C for Central KY (Louisville, Lexington); far Western KY (Paducah, Mayfield, Bowling Green region adjacent to New Madrid) reaches D
- Sds range
- Site-specific. Typical Site Class D values: Louisville ~0.25–0.35g; Lexington ~0.18–0.25g; Paducah ~0.85–1.10g (true New Madrid exposure).
- Anchoring & bracing
- ANSI MH16.1-2021 (RMI) governs storage rack design in SDC A through D; required by the IBC/KBC reference chain. SDC D in Western KY drives full seismic detailing including base-plate anchorage and bracing.
