⚠️ Local Quirks

- Yellowstone seismic zone: Bozeman, Big Sky, West Yellowstone sit on active Intermountain Seismic Belt; 1959 M7.3 Hebgen Lake quake is a design reference. Expect SDC D and conservative anchor/brace details.
- Cold-weather steel: sub-zero temps require attention to fracture toughness on anchors and welded base plates; many AHJs scrutinize cold-formed steel uprights.
- Ag/cattle warehouses: hay, feed, and biomass storage may trigger high-piled and dust deflagration review under IFC.
- Oil/gas (Bakken, eastern MT): Williston Basin facilities in Richland/Roosevelt counties often fall under state BCB (no local enforcement).
- No-enforcement towns: many small Montana towns have no certified building program; default is state BCB, but inspection cadence is thin.
